Dr. Gehrmann’s areas of interest include ligament reconstruction in the skeletally immature, tendon repair and cartilage transplantation.

“My goal is to treat each patient as an individual and not as an injury,” he said. “I integrate age and activity level with a patient’s personal expectations. My stress is on patient education so that together we can arrive at the best treatment plan for your lifestyle.”

Dr. Gehrmann completed a prestigious sports medicine fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, and was in the first class to receive subspecialty certification in orthopaedic sports medicine.

After his training, Dr. Gehrmann served as an assistant team physician for the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Flyers. He later served as the director of Sports Medicine at West Virginia University, where he cared for many Division I athletes including women’s soccer and the West Virginia Mountaineers football team.

He served as the chief of orthopaedic sports medicine at the Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School for 10 years, where he taught orthopaedic residents cutting-edge surgical techniques in arthroscopy and reconstruction.

In his practice, he treats athletes of all ages, but spends a great deal of time treating children who have sports related injuries.

He serves as the head team physician for all of the Rutgers/Newark Athletic Teams.

Dr. Gehrmann is a member of the faculty for the Arthroscopy Association of North America, where he functions as a master instructor helping other orthopaedic surgeons hone their skills.

As head of Collegiate Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Dr. Gehrmann’s focus in on repair, rehabilitation and conditioning to optimize long-term physical health and ability.
