This past week, Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey received an unexpected delivery just in time for the holiday season — an order that unsurprisingly contains a ton of food, but also a strong taste of community service.

DoorDash, the online order and food delivery platform, has provided Boys & Girls Clubs with $17,000 in gift cards through its Community Credits program.

“Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey is grateful to DoorDash for supporting NJ Clubs across the state,” said Susan Haspel, state director of Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey. “The impact of this partnership will provide club youth, staff and families with access to food, essentials and more. It will really make a difference in their local communities.”

Community Credits is one of DoorDash’s many charitable programs that provides nonprofit organizations with the power to serve food and reduce food insecurity directly through distribution of the company’s gift cards. Any nonprofit organization in the United States, Canada and Australia can apply to become part of the program and receive support.

The partnership between DoorDash and the Boys & Girls Clubs came about when a member of one club reached out to higher-ups about potentially applying to the company’s program. After making connections, filing an application and awaiting for word on an approval, DoorDash delivered on its promises with far more than the Boys & Girls Clubs expected, and the alliance is already putting that support to good use.

“Clubs are already using their DoorDash gift cards for all sorts of needs. Some of these include staff appreciation, parent engagement events, and of course, wherever gift cards can be used to help a family in need of our support,” Haspel said.

In Clifton, one club has already used some of its DoorDash funding for staff members working within their local swim clubs. According to Haspel, gift cards were given to a group of employees as a reward for their “exceptional active heroism after responding to an emergency incident.”

Meanwhile, other Boys & Girls Clubs such as one located in Paterson Passaic, is planning to distribute its DoorDash gift cards during an upcoming holiday showcase. The gift cards will be provided to 60 club families so they can order a meal from one of their favorite restaurants this holiday season.

“Every club has different needs and they are going to get our full support,” Haspel said. “DoorDash’s Communtiy Credits provides a tremendous value to our clubs and club families. Its a wonderful opportunity that will make an impact on many communities in New Jersey and we hope to be working with them more in the future.”

Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey is an alliance of 22 organizations with 86 club sites across 44 cities serving more than 55,000 youth ages 5 to 18 throughout the Garden State.
